Executive Summary

Bus Catching Simulator is a highly immersive experience designed to capture the vulnerability of relying on an unreliable bus service. The setting is based on the UWE Frenchay Campus bus stop, and players can interact with the nearby NPC's, whose behaviour gets stranger and stranger as the night progresses...

Key highlights include:

  • Dynamic day/night system
  • Environment and NPC's change as the night progresses
  • Ambient sound which helps to build tension

Key Takeaways

  • Sound and colour are hugely important in environmental design
  • Virtual reality requires some different considerations from normal gameplay, for example, making the environment suitable for teleportation.

Purpose and Goal

This project was developed for the Media Production module of BSc. (Hons) Digital Media at the University of the West of England. The goal was to design a transformative project based on a real environment which, in this case, is UWE's Frenchay Campus bus station.

From a technical perspective, the project demonstrates a strong understanding of environmental design and sensible aesthetic choices which help create a truly unnerving experience for the player.
